Brief description Every day, more than 150 Australians have a stroke. Stroke is the is the third leading cause of death in Australia and the primary cause of long-term disability. No drugs are currently available to protect the brain from stroke-induced injury. We plan to develop a drug that first responders can administer to stroke patients to provide protection of their brain even before they reach a hospital. Early initiation of stroke treatment will save lives and improve quality of life for stroke survivors.
