Brief description Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer which continues to rise in prevalence. Despite advances, once metastasized, melanoma is almost universally fatal. The growth and spread of melanoma requires access to the blood supply. Vasculogenic mimicry (VM) is a newly recognised process wherein the cancer cells themselves form vessel-like structures and contribute to metastasis and poor survival. Our work on controlling tumour vasculature may provide new options to combat this deadly disease.
