This spatial boundary supports the marine bioregional boundaries as described in the State of the Fisheries Reports, that follows those of the Interim Marine and Coastal Regionalisation for Australia report (IMCRA Technical Group) except for the inclusion of the Gascoyne coast as a separate region.

Lineage

Statement: Lineage: This dataset was created for a number of sources: a) Geoscience Australia's 1:1,000,000 Geodata coastline dataset. b) Geoscience Australia’s Australian Maritime Boundaries (AMB) 200Nm Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). c) The boundary is in part defined by coordinates taken from the State of the Fisheries Report 2008/2009. c) This dataset replaces any versions of the data prior to March 2010. Positional accuracy: The AMB dataset are considered to have good positional accuracy and reference should be made to the relevant metadata. Parts of the boundary are considered to have high positional accuracy where it has been digitized using coordinates from the State of the Fisheries Report 2008/2009. The 1:1,000,000 coastline does not have the same level of accuracy as Landgate’s detailed coastline. Due to the large spatial extent of the bioregions, a less detailed coastline had to be used to allow for efficient processing of the data. Attribute accuracy: Attribute design caters for feature level metadata. Logical Consistency: ESRI ArcGIS (ArcEditor) has been used to check and resolve any topology consistency errors in the spatial data. Completeness: Line work and attributes are complete and verified by the Department’s Spatial Data Manager. Any modifications to the boundary will need to be verified by the Department’s Spatial Data Manager.
