Full description Malaria causes >200 million clinical cases and >600,000 deaths annually. There is no broadly effective malaria vaccine and drug resistance is a significant global problem. Thus, it is essential that we use current drugs effectively to limit parasite resistance development and to ensure their continued use. This project addresses the need to understand how existing malaria drugs work by investigating the mode of action and potential resistance mechanisms of the antimalarial drug proguanil.
