This data file contains results from a single toxicity test using an Antarctic rotifer (Philodina sp.) exposed to copper.The test was run at the Casey research station laboratory in east Antarctica during 2018/2019 summer.
Test biota (rotifers; Philodina sp.) were isolated from soil and moss samples collected from Casey and maintained in a temperature controlled cabinet at 10°C with 12/12 hour light dark cycle for 1-2 weeks prior to testing.
Test solution was Ultrapure water, spiked with copper stock solutions as necessary.
The test was conducted in a 48 microwell plate and consisted 5 copper treatments and a control, replicated four times.
Each treatment well contained 10-13 individual rotifers
Nominal test concentrations were as follows: Cu 0, 10, 130, 200, 400 and 600 µg/L
The test ran for 3 days, with rotifer activity and death assessed via light microscope at 48h and 96h
At the end of the test period samples were pooled by treatment and acidifed to 10% HNO3, then analysed for copper concentration via ICP-MS.

PurposeThe purpose of the research and associated data set was to determine the sensitivity of an Antarctic rotifer (Philodena sp.) to copper in ultrapure water. Data from this work will contribute to the development of guidelines for site assessment, management and remediation, aimed at protecting Australia's Antarctic Territory.
