This collection of over 500 objects contains Australian glass manufactured by Crown Crystal and later the Crown Corning companies for a 60 year period from the end of the first World War to the late 1970s. The collection includes many familiar items from Australian homes such as salad bowls, serving dishes, jugs, vases and drinking glasses. Hand cut crystal including the Grimwade line and carnival glass with Australian animal and plant motifs are also featured. Glassware for hotels, milk bars and restaurants such as beer glasses, bowls for ice cream sundaes, parfait glasses, dishes for banana splits, milk shake glasses and counter dispensers is included as well as industrial items such as insulators and laboratory glassware including flasks, gauge glasses, ounce measures and funnels. The archive consists of five order books of carbon copies of orders for moulds to be used in the production of glass objects from 17 April 1930 to January 1952. The orders are mainly for regular lines of domestic glassware, but also include orders for laboratory glassware and special defence orders during World War II for insulators, blood transfusion bottles, etc. The details recorded on each order are the date, the mould order number and a description of the job.Notes
