The correspondence and some papers in this series were created during Sir Johns term as manager and then Chairman of the SEC. This was from 1920 to 1931.

The series includes some papers written by Sir John prior to his appointment to the SEC, and many papers, articles and other memorabilia collected after his death in 1931.

Sir John Monash was appointed General Manager of the Electricity Commissioners undertaking at Morwell in October 1920 and soon after was appointed the inaugural Chairman of the SEC.
