Brief description
Digital representation of the revised Buckland Reconnaissance Soil Map, originally surveyed by CSIRO in 1958. Original mapping scale was 1 inch to 1 mile (1:63360). The soil map covers the northern half of the Prosser 1:100 000 topographic mapsheet area. The revised map was digitally reproduced by DPIWE at a more reliable scale of 1:100 000. The data represents one in a series of Reconnaissance soil survey maps compiled by CSIRO for Tasmania. The data is comprised of lines and polygons. Soil data attributes include soil mapping unit, unit code, unit description, and the Australian Soil Classification, Great Soil Group classification and soil profile class for the dominant soil. Additional soil information is displayed as annotation on both the Arcview version of the digital map and on the paper map. Attribute data for the soil profile description sample site locations displayed on the digital and non-digital map are stored in the DPIWE Oracle database. These sites were collected by CSIRO and DPIWE for a range of projects. They are listed as a separate metadata entry.A written report describing the soil map data is available as 'Revised Buckland Reconnaissance Soil Map of Tasmania. Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment'.
