La Trobe University
La Trobe University, established in 1964, is one of Australia’s leading universities, with more than 36,000 students. The University offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees with a focus on high quality learning, teaching and student experience; a commitment to employment outcomes; and innovative research. La Trobe currently hosts more than 7,000 international students from 110 countries and approximately 2,600 international students complete a degree at the University each year.
La Trobe has eight campuses in Victoria and New South Wales, and is the largest provider of university education in regional Victoria with its largest campus located in Bundoora, just 14km from Melbourne’s city centre.
La Trobe University has two other major campuses located in the regional Victorian city of Bendigo and the twin border cities of Albury-Wodonga. The university has two smaller regional campuses in Mildura and Shepparton and three CBD campuses: two in Melbourne on Franklin Street and Collins Street and one on Elizabeth Street in Sydney.
La Trobe has built an international reputation for excellence. In 2016 La Trobe University was ranked in the top 50 universities under 50 in the QS World University Rankings.
La Trobe is the top ranked institution in Australia for research in microbiology and equal top with just one other university in biochemistry and cell biology and in veterinary sciences.
La Trobe also ranks high in the areas of historical studies and archaeology and in the 2015 QS World University Rankings La Trobe University was ranked in the top 200 international universities for arts and humanities.
In 2015 La Trobe University was ranked in the top 3 universities in Victoria, and in the top ten universities in Australia for the number of research fields rated at 'well above world standard' in the 2015 Excellence in Research for Australia National Report, performing exceptionally well in the disciplines of Agricultural, Biological and Physical Sciences.
Researchers at La Trobe University work in some of the world’s best facilities, including the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS) and Centre for AgriBioscience.
La Trobe is a member of the Innovative Research Universities, a group that collectively receives over $340 million in research grants.
