A sequential mixed methods with multiple phases, and instrument design will be employed. This method involves the collection of qualitative data to explore the role of Australian regional universities, followed by the collection of quantitative data to understand the way financial position of RUN universities compared to Group of Eight (GO8) universities in order to assess the adequacy of funding for regional universities in terms of their role and functions. Data will be collected through semi-structured interviews, surveys, and focus groups. Primary data will be collected from ABS and Department of Education published reports.
