Brief description

The NSW\nNatural Resources Commission (NRC) engaged the University of Newcastle to analyse\nAirborne Laser Scanning (ALS) for monitoring forest conditions and biophysical\noutcomes. The analysis looked at the relationships between topographic\nposition, fire severity and harvesting history, including harvest intensity.

\n\n

The ALS\ndata used was LiDAR LAS data captured across 540,000 hectares of NSW state\nforest. These included 27 state forests across 7 regions (Eden, Batemans Bay,\nBulahdelah, Wauchope, Coffs Harbour, Styx River and Casino) across 3 separate\ncapture years (2012, 2016 and 2023).

\n\n

The LiDAR\nmetrics developed include canopy top height, canopy coverage, canopy foliage\ndensity, and skew. The canopy top height and canopy cover LiDAR metrics displayed\nin this webmap were calculated at a 30 metre x 30 metre resolution.
