Brief description
The Clyde Engineering photographic archive consists of about 3000 images dating from 1895 to 1950, many of which are glass plate negatives. They document the activities and output of the Clyde Engineering Works which was, in its time, the largest engineering enterprise in NSW.Significance
The Clyde Engineering Works company produced locomotives, railway and tramway rolling stock, mining, refrigeration, water supply and agricultural machinery at its site at Granville, near Parramatta, in Sydney. The images are an excellent source of information about industry and related social conditions from 1895 to 1950. Many of Clyde's products found applications in regional areas - typical images include equipment for use in wheat and wool growing, flour milling, chaff and feed production, water supply and irrigation, in refrigeration of foodstuffs, and in all aspects of mining, including smelting. Many of the images depict people making or using machinery produced by Clyde Engineering Works.Data time period: 1859 to 1950
