Full description

Cleveland Street High School, in county Cumberland, was formed in January 1982 by a merger of Cleveland Street Boys High School and Waterloo High School. Cleveland Street operated as a High School from January 1982 until December 2001 (1). High Schools offer secondary education, and were first established in 1883. These schools remained a very small part of the education system until after 1910 (2). Cleveland Street High School became a Community School in December 2001 and was renamed Alexandria Park Community School (3). Community Schools cater for students from Kindergarten through to Year 12. It differs from a Central School only in that it has been established not because there are too few secondary students to support a High School, but because of a choice to have K-Year 12 education provided by one school (4). In January 2003, Alexandria Public School, Redfern Public School, and Waterloo Public School were merged into Alexandria Park Community School (5). IN 2003 Alexandria Park Community School was located at Park Road, Alexandria, in the District of Port Jackson (6). ENDNOTES:
