Full description
BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCECIRCULAR was a commission by VicUrban and Walker Corporation in partnership with Wyndham City Council. Community engagement was a central part of this art commission so four months of intensive community research was conducted, involving an extremely wide range of community members and orgnaisations. Their stories then became the conceptual basis of the artwork which finally manifest as eight manhole covers (sand cast in iron) set into the pedestrian crossings on Main Street, Point Cook. Due to the media chosen, a great deal of production research was also required. The project was a huge success, being covered in both broad and design-orientated media.
CONTRIBUTION
The research for Circular was unique due to its breadth. It was community-based research which involved schools, community centres, indigenous groups, historical societies and councillors. There is an enormous amount of information and documentation on both the process and outcome of this project at www.circularprojects.com
