Brief description The importance of immune cells that reside in tissues (i.e. skin, gut, liver) is only now becoming apparent. Tissue-resident immune cells can protect us from infection, but these cells can also drive destructive immune responses (i.e. diabetes, psoriasis). We will be determining what causes tissue-resident cells to be “protective” or “destructive”. This knowledge will help us to design vaccines and therapies that target tissue-resident cells.
