CCAMLR (Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources) Statistical Reporting Subareas.
GIS data representing the boundary (line) and centroid (point with the area name as an attribute) of each area.
The southern boundary of the areas adjacent to Antarctica is the coastline of Antarctica. The coastline has not been included with this data.

This dataset is no longer maintained by the Australian Antarctic Data Centre as the CCAMLR Statistical Reporting Subarea boundaries are now available from CCAMLR's Online GIS (see the Related URL).

Statement: March 2009 ---------- The boundaries meeting the Antarctic coastline were edited so their extent matched the 1:10 million scale coastline data from the Antarctic Digital Database version 5, released in 2007. Two errors were also corrected where boundaries stopped at an ice shelf front instead of continuing to the grounding line. April 2006 ---------- GIS data representing the boundary (line) and centroid (point with the area name as an attribute) of each area was generated at Geoscience Australia based on the description provided on the CCAMLR website at http://www.ccamlr.org/pu/E/conv/map.htm in January 2006. At the Australian Antarctic Data Centre additional vertices at 0.1 degree intervals were added by linear interpolation to the lines, other than lines of longitude, so that the data were useful in map projections like Polar Stereographic. Superseded data, previously made available and described below, has been archived. June 2002 --------- Data representing the subareas was generated in an Azimuthal projection, centred on the South Pole, at CCAMLR. At the Australian Antarctic Data Centre, the Antarctic coastline in the data were replaced with the best resolution Antarctic coastline from the Antarctic Digital Database, version 3. In the absence of any information about the spheroid on which the Azimuthal projection was based, it was assumed the projection was based on a sphere of radius 6370997 m (the default radius provided by ArcInfo 8.2). The area of each subarea, given in the 'Area_sq_km' field, was determined by reprojecting the data to a Lambert Azimuthal projection, centred on the South Pole. This projection was based on a sphere of radius 6370997 m.
