Brief description

The dataset is ground temperature and thermal conductivity data recorded at the Calperum Critical Zone observatory with AuScope Heat Needle devices. It comprises two file types. TLOG files record ground temperature at millikelvin resolution at seven depths from surface to 1.1 m continuously at 15-minute intervals. TCLOG files record temperatures during periodic one-hour heating tests for the purpose of thermal conductivity measurements. Data Releases - The data is accumulated over time in newer releases. Each subsequent release will include new data appended to all prior data from previous releases, with no changes to the previous data. A “readme.txt” file is provided in the dataset, which explains the structure and content of the dataset. It includes details about using metadata and generating processed files.

Lineage

Statement: The data are collected every 2 to 3 months from three different stations at Calperum Critical Zone Observatory (CZO), using three Heat Needle instruments. One Heat Needle is deployed at each station and each Heat Needle has its own calibration coefficients to convert digital sensor readings to actual temperature values. Therefore, the dataset includes raw data files that contain digital Heat Needle sensor readings, and processed data files that contain the conversion to temperatures.
