Full description

Broken Hill Court of Petty Sessions, within the Mitchell Police District, was created on 1 September 1886 under the provisions of s.459 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1883 (46 Vic. No.17). (1)

The records of the Tarrowingee Court of Petty Sessions were transferred to the Broken Hill Court of Petty Sessions on 1 January 1932 when the Tarrowingee Court of Petty Sessions was abolished. (2) The records of the Silverton, formerly Umberumberka, Court of Petty Sessions were transferred to the Broken Hill Court of Petty Sessions on 1 November 1933 when the Silverton Court of Petty Sessions was abolished. (3)

The Broken Hill Court of Petty Sessions was abolished on 31 December 1984, when the Local Courts Act 1982 abolished all Courts of Petty Sessions and replaced these with Local Courts. (4)
