Broadmeadows was declared as a road district in 27 November 1857 under the Act for making and improving Roads in the Colony of Victoria (Victoria Government Gazette No. 138, November 27 1857). Broadmeadows was then proclaimed a Shire on 27 January 1871, and a City on 30 May 1956.This council was abolished in 1994 as part of a statewide program of local government reform enacted between 1993 and 1995. The reform process reduced the number of councils from 210 to 78. Hume City Council (VA 3695) has was appointed as the successor in law of the City of Broadmeadows and assumed its rights, assets and liabilities.
