BOLD contrast images were collected during inhalation of two doses of capsaicin, voluntary coughing, and cough evoked by capsaicin inhalation. BOLD contrast images were also collected during four minutes of saline inhalation and four minutes of capsaicin inhalation in order to test for the effects of airways irritation on the functional connectivity of brain regions activated by capsaicin inhalation.
