Full description
Box Hill Primary School (no. 2838) was established on Whitehorse Road, Box Hill in 1887.The original school was a brick building with three rooms housed on 2 acres of land. Enrolments steadily increased during the turn of the 20th century; in 1889 enrolments numbered 211, in 1896 enrolments reached 314 and by 1914 student enrolments climbed to 600.
Additions were made to the original building in 1909, however the site proved unsuitable for the growing number of enrolments. A new school site was purchased in Station Street alongside Box Hill Gardens with a new double storey brick building built. This new building was officially opened on 13th February 1920.
Enrolments reached 946 in 1953 but numbers had declined significantly by 1993 when the school was closed.
