Full description

Barfold Primary School (School No. 3424) (VA 3176) was a co-educational primary school opened in 1902 on the site of the former Watchbox Gully State School (School No. 2375) in Barfold, Central Victoria. The school moved to its permanent location along Heathcote-Kyneton Road in 1904.

In 1945 Barfold Primary School was temporarily closed and students were offered conveyance or tuition by correspondence. The school re-opened three years later, in 1948, operating on a part-time basis with Redesdale State School (School No. 2571) located six miles away, with each school to be open for two and three days alternately each week.

Following a bushfire in 1949, outoffices from the former Edgecombe Primary School (School No. 277; previously known as Green Hills 1859-1877) (VA 4588) were transferred and re-erected on the Barfold Primary School site.

The part-time arrangement with Redesdale School was ceased with Barfold Primary School officially operating full time from 1951 although the school remained unstaffed until 1952.

Barfold Primary School permanently closed in 1976.
