Full description

In 1894 a piece of land in Crane Street, Ballina was dedicated as a site for a Fire station. The same site was dedicated again in 1912. (1) The Ballina Fire Brigade Board was established 1903 and it would appear that this date marks the commencement of the Ballina Fire Station. (2) The Station building was erected by the Ballina Council before 1910 at a cost of £132. (3) The Station was a weatherboard structure with iron roof, comprising an engine-room, meeting room, three small rooms, and an additional room above Station.(4) A contribution from the Government of £57 for the upkeep of the brigade was being received from 1910 (5). The Ballina Fire Brigade Board continued until 31/12/1909 and its function was taken by the Board of Fire Commissioners.(6) A new station in Ballina was erected in 1928. (7). In 2000 the Ballina Station also was located at 60 Crane Street Ballina. (8). FOOTNOTES:
