Australian "New Wave" films and directors collection

This is a collection of materials within the AFI Research Collection about the Australian filmmakers who came to prominence in the 1970s, a time which noted film critic David Stratton termed "Australia's New Wave" (as a reference to the New Wave films of France). This collection includes materials about the films in the 1970s that Stratton mentions - such as Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975), The Devil's Playground (1976), The Last Wave (1977) and The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith (1978) - and also lists all of the films the filmmakers have dealt with past that date. The Australian New Wave directors and films collection materials include books, book chapters, journal articles, and clippings files, with other items (such as posters and DVDs) also included.
