Researchers Prof Tanya Monro;

Brief description The research will generate and control photons on the sub-wavelength scale as a foundation for light–matter interactions at sub-cellular scales. By developing advanced nanolasers that can create photons remotely, and resonant and nonlinear architectures that enhance the interaction of these photons with their local environment, I will drive forward new approaches in nanophotonics. When applied within or near a targeted cell, this approach will yield insights well beyond current microscopy, revealing how cells function and respond to their local environment. These tools will transform the types of systemic questions biomedical researchers can ask and will lead to devices for clinical diagnostics and environmental monitoring.
