Australian Films in the 1950s and 1960s

This is a collection of materials held at the AFI Research Collection (AFIRC) that relate directly to Australian films screened from 1950 to 1969. In the 1950s and 1960s film production in Australia slowed considerably. There were a number of large US productions made in Australia featuring some Australian cast and crew, but these were traditionally seen as US productions. There was consistent documentary production during these decades, as well as the beginnings for a number of filmmakers who would go onto success in the 1970s and beyond. Due to the time frame of this collection (before the inception of the AFIRC) the amount of materials held here are small, but in many ways they are important as they are difficult to locate elsewhere. Most of the items held in this collection are clippings files, with other items being books and journal articles.
