Australian Film Poster Collection

This is a collection of Australian film posters held at the AFI Research Collection. The collection is focused mainly on Australian film though there are some listings for Australian television shows as well. The posters were once used as a promotional item to show the public that a certain film was screening. The posters may be used in a number of different areas, though one of the main locations where they would be used would be on the premises of a cinema that was showing the film. The posters have been collected by the AFI Research Collection over the years, though a large portion of the collection comes from a donation by the Chauvel Cinema in Paddington, Sydney (the Australian Film Institute once ran this cinema). Other notable donors include the Cinema Nova in Carlton, Melbourne.
