Brief description
The collection consists of a database and physical collection of sampled invertebrates from four distinct sampling methodologies conducted across latitudinal and altitudinal gradients with rainforests of the Wet Tropics bioregion between 2006 and 2010.
Full description
Locations of insect sampling coincide with long-term vertebrate and climate monitoring sites done by the Centre for Tropical Biodiversity and Climate ChangeTraps were monitored on a monthly basis from 2006 to 2010. Flying insects were sampled with non-baited Malaise and Flight Intercept traps. Ground dwelling insect species were sampled with both passive (non-baited) and active (baited with kangaroo dung, to attract dung beetles) Pitfall traps. Most of the insects collected remain preserved in specimen jars. Were resources were available, specimens were sorted and records of abundance are linked to an invertebrate taxonomy table which contains information about species taxonomic classification (Carabid Ground Beetles, Dung Beetles, and Schizophoran Flies) and species life-history traits (Schizophoran Flies only).
