Australia Day Committee (Victoria)

Full description

Since 1978 the Victorian Government had sponsored a Salute to Australia Pageant which commenced as a result of the unveiling of The History of Transport Mural at Spencer Street railway station. In 1978 the funds allocated to the Salute to Australia Pageant were re-directed to the new Committee which assumed the responsibility for all activities associated with Australia Day.

The Australia Day (Victoria) Committee was established to develop the observance of Australia Day and to foster a sense of national pride within all members of the community.

Secretarial support was provided by the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
