Full description
The Commensal Real-time ASKAP Fast Transient (CRAFT) Survey Science Project develops instrumentation and conducts searches for fast (> 1 s), dispersed transients with the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP). It localises the transients to sub-arcsecond precision. This enables the source of the transients to be identified through complementary multi-wavelength follow up. It studies the details of the emission through high time (ns-s) resolution spectropolarimetry, which is combined with studies of the sources to determine the cause of the emission. It also uses the impulsive nature of the bursts as physical probes to study the content and structure of space and the cosmology of the Universe. Most data taken for the survey is expected to be acquired using dedicated hardware run commensally during other survey science modes, which will be archived elsewhere. Some data products, archived here, will be produced using the standard hardware correlator, particularly in the commissioning of the fast transient modes on the dedicated hardware.Available: 2023-07-14
