Brief description
EMUCAT generates “diffuse images” by implementing an algorithm designed to emphasise the large scale diffuse emission in EMU tiles. The algorithm is based on the multi-resolution filtering scheme of Rudnick (2002, PASP, 114, 427). Each EMU tile has a matching “diffuse image” to aid in the identification of low brightness structures in the presence of brighter small scale emission. Caution is required in the quantitative use of these images, and in particular fields containing Galactic emission need to be interpreted with great care. Users are encouraged to consult with Larry Rudnick or Stefan Duchesne on any specific quantitative measurements.Available: 2024-12-11
