A qualitative, ethnographic study of the place of gongfu tea in the everyday lives of people in Chaoshan, China. Gongfu tea is a distinctive and refined style of preparing and drinking tea, involving a strong infusion prepared in small teapots, consumed in small cups, with most drinking sessions involving several brews from the same tea-leaves. Data was collected by semi-structured interviews and observations, with some but not all interviews being recorded. The dataset consists of interview recordings, field notes and photographs.
