Brief description Hybridisation in a changing world: building wildlife resilience. Genetic rescue is a powerful but under-utilised conservation tool for enhancing biodiversity resilience. This project aims to increase the uptake of genetic rescue in conservation by addressing uncertainties around the long-term impacts of mixing divergent species on key evolutionary processes linked to viability. This project expects to advance knowledge of how hybridisation shapes persistence over many generations using whole genomes, population viability models and historical samples from a rare natural experiment. Expected outcomes of this project include tools for evidence-based decision-making in conservation. This should provide significant benefits, such as improved conservation outcomes for threatened species and ecosystems.
