Paul Carter conceived the exhibition as a project that would speak to 'Alterations', a landscape design/public art work devised by Carter and landscape architects RushWright as part of the $290 million Dandenong Municipal Buildings, Library and Civic Square project (see http://www.smh.com.au/business/property/civic-centre-heart-for-dandenong- 20121023-283dh.html). The civic square project includes Carter's ground pattern - a translation of topographical, clothing and locally-sourced patterns into a new design.
