AIHW - Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) - Hospitalisations - Excluding Dialysis by Sex and Age (PHA) 2012-2015

Brief description

This dataset presents the statistics of hospitalisations with a principal diagnosis associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) excluding principal diagnosis of dialysis distributed by sex and age for the years between 2012-2015. The data is and is aggregated to the 2011 Public Health Information Development Unit (PHIDU) Population Health Areas (PHA), based on the 2011 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS).

The CKD datasets were released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) to present data on prevalence, treatment (hospitalisations for CKD and dialysis) and deaths. It shows the distribution of the impact of CKD across Australia and visualises rates of CKD and the health and demographic profile for local areas.

The data was modelled by the AIHW from The National Hospital Morbidity Database (NHMD) which is compiled from data supplied by the state and territories. Hospitalisation counts are counts of admitted patient episodes of care not individual patients, and would include multiple hospitalisations experienced by the same individual if the individual had more than one hospitalisation for CKD in the given time period.

* Where data has not been published due to small numbers, "n.p." in the original data, the value has been set to null.

* Where values have been identified to have a relative root mean square error (RRMSE), a new column has been added where "*" presents an RRMSE between 25% and 50%. This data should be used with caution.

* These counts do not include home dialysis services received by patients and dialysis treatment completed in Emergency Department before their hospital admission.
