Full description
The Workers Compensation (Dust Diseases) Authority was established on 1 September 2015 under the Workers Compensation (Dust Diseases) Act 1942 (Act No.14, 1942), as amended by the Insurance and Care Governance Act 2015 (Act No.19, 2015). The Authority replaced, and is a continuation of, the former Workers Compensation (Dust Diseases) Board. (1)
Dust Diseases Care is the name used by the Workers Compensation (Dust Diseases) Authority as a related entity supported by Insurance and Care NSW (icare NSW). Dust Diseases Care provides a no-fault workers compensation scheme for people who have developed a compensable dust disease from occupational exposure to dust as a worker in NSW and their dependants. Dust Diseases Care aims to be a trusted partner in work-related dust diseases. It seeks to be there for past and present workers and their families by providing information, personalised care and comprehensive support when they need it. It aims to take the effort out of managing a worker’s wellbeing and quality of life. (2)
Dust Diseases Care sits alongside the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme, the Workers Care program and CTP Care* as part of Lifetime Schemes in icare NSW. (3)
A new Dust Diseases Board was established in 2015 to authorise grants for research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dust diseases. It also assisted groups and organisations that provide support for victims of dust diseases and their families. (4)
