Full description
John Morony Correctional Centre was proclaimed a prison under the Prisons Act 1952 (No.9, 1952) on 4 December 1991. The centre was located on 9.2 hectares in the City of Penrith, Parish of Londonderry and County of Cumberland. (1)
On 30 June 1999 the Centre was revoked as a prison and was re-established as a correctional centre in a subsequent proclamation on the same date. (2)
The proclamation of 30 June 1999 was revoked and replaced with a continuing proclamation on 22 March 2000 with changes to the boundaries of the Centre expanding to 16.52 hectares. (3) Further boundary changes were made on 23 January 2004. (4)
At the establishment of the John Morony Correctional Complex on 20 August 2008, the boundaries of the Centre were reduced to the original Centre area of 9.2 hectares and the Centre sat within the boundaries of the new Complex. (5)
Minor boundaries changes occurred to John Morony Correctional Centre within the Complex on 6 March 2009, 11 April 2014, 30 May 2014, and 6 June 2014. (6)
The John Morony Correctional Complex was renamed Francis Greenway Correctional Complex from 6 March 2020. There were no changes to the Correctional Centre. (7)
In 2023, John Morony Correctional Centre was a medium-security facility for male offenders. (8)
