Full description

Under the provisions of the Local Government (Shires) Act 1905, the Shire of Bland was proclaimed on 7 March 1906. (1) The first temporary councillors were appointed effective from 9 June 1906 and those being Denis Byrne of Iowah, Barmedman, Joseph Charles Holmes of Back Creek, Wyalong, Charles Maurice Johns of Wollongough Station, Ungarie, George Punton, of West Wyalong, Samuel Wilson of Lake Cowal Station, Marsden. (2)

Land from Wyalong Municipality was transferred to Bland Shire from 1 September 1910 and the Bland Shire Council and Wyalong Municipality were re-constituted. (3) Part of Lachlan Shire amounting to about 27 acres was transferred to Bland Shire, effective 29 April 1921. (4) It was proclaimed on 18 December 1931 that an area of about 2424 square kilometres of Coolamon Shire was to be added to Bland Shire. (5)

From 1 October 1935 the Municipality of Wyalong and the Shire of Bland were united and named the Shire of Bland. The area formerly comprised in the Wyalong Municipality was incorporated in A Riding of the new Shire of Bland and a provisional council of six were appointed. Bland Shire was divided into three ridings, the total area of the newly united land constituting around 8456 square kilometres. (6)
