Full description
Land for use as a hospital site at Blacktown in the Parish of Prospect, County of Cumberland, was reserved under the Public Hospitals Act 1912-1943 and the Public Works Act 1912 on 24 September 1954 fronting Blacktown Road, Blacktown. (1)
The Blacktown District Hospital was added to the Second Schedule of the Public Hospitals Act 1929 on 31 July 1957. (2)
The first Directors of The Blacktown Hospital were appointed on 31 July 1957. (3)
The Blacktown District Hospital opened on 28 April 1965 and the first patient was admitted on 29 April 1965. The Blacktown District Hospital was officially opened by Minister for Health, on 30 June 1965. (4)
On 15 September 1982 the name of the hospital was altered to Blacktown Hospital. (5)
From 1 October 1986 the Blacktown Hospital formed part of the Prospect Area Health Service. (6)
In 1996 Blacktown Hospital and Mount Druitt Hospital became known as Blacktown-Mount Druitt Health Service, later Blacktown-Mount Druitt Hospital (BMDH), and they then operated as one hospital with two campuses. (7)
