The Municipality of Campbelltown [II] was a local government body in the parishes of Minto, St. Peter, Menangle, Narellan, Appin, Eckersley and Wedderburn in the county of Cumberland, constituted under the Local Government (Areas) Act 1948 (Act No.30 1948) and subsequent legislation.
Under the Local Government (Areas) Act 1948 the former municipalities of Campbelltown and Ingleburn were amalgamated on 1 January 1949, to form a new Municipality of Campbelltown. The previous Campbelltown became the First ward, returning nine aldermen, and Ingleburn became the Second ward, returning seven aldermen. (1)
The ward structure of Campbelltown was altered in 1950 to three wards named North, Central and South, and the council reduced to 12 aldermen as of the next election. (2) The wards were abolished in 1960. (3)
On 3 May 1968 the Municipality of Campbelltown was proclaimed the City of Campbelltown. (4) The Local Government Act 1993 (Act No.30, 1993) removed the terms Municipality and Shire from local body titles, but did not remove City; so the council retained the name of the Council of the City of Campbelltown. (5) Under this Act, aldermen were renamed councillors. (6)
In 2015, Campbelltown ratepayers were represented by 15 councillors. (7)
