Full description

Parramatta Boys Junior High School in the County of Cumberland opened in January 1944. It became Macquarie Boys High School in January 1956 and closed in 2010. (1)

Junior High Schools were separate secondary schools offering only junior secondary education. High Schools were schools offering secondary levels of education. (2)

Prior to 1944 Parramatta was a subsidised school.(3) A subsidised school was not a government school as the minimum attendance was smaller than any classification for a government school. The Department paid a subsidy for each pupil, however parents were responsible for providing the school building and the teacher. (4)
