Kywong Provisional School in county Mitchell opened in October 1940. Its classification changed to a public school in 1954 and it closed in December 1985. (1)

At the time of the school's creation as a provisional school it required a minimum of 10 students for the establishment of the school. The minimum number of students for a classification of a public school in 1954 was 20 students. (2)
