Full description
The Municipality of Hunter's Hill was established on 7 January 1861 under the Municipalities Act of 1858 (22 Vic. No.13). A petition of sixty householders requesting that their area become a municipality was presented to the Governor in August 1860 and no counter petition was received in the three months after this petition was presented. The name was changed to Hunter's Hill Council under the Local Government Act 1993 (Act No.30, 1993). (1)
Hunter's Hill was the smallest local government area in Metropolitan Sydney and one of the oldest on the north side of the harbour. Hunters Hill is a peninsula stretching from Pittwater Road to Onions Point, at the confluence of the Lane Cove and Parramatta Rivers, located approximately 7 kilometres from the Central Business District of Sydney. The Local Government Area of Hunter's Hill did not have any boundary changes since it was established in 1861. (2)
The suburb of Hunters Hill does not contain an apostrophe in its name, however, an apostrophe was used when referring to Hunter's Hill Council. (3)
