Full description
On 5 July 1872, following the receipt of a petition of 87 persons, the Municipal District of Prospect and Sherwood was proclaimed, (1) with its first election to be held on 26 August 1972. (2)
Those first elected as Aldermen were Arthur Todd Holroyd, Walter Lamb, John Booth, John Good, Andrew Payten and Samuel Cook. (3) Of these, Holroyd was elected as the Municipality's first mayor. (4)
On 11 January 1927, the Governor proclaimed an alteration in the district's name to Municipality of Holroyd. The proclamation was gazetted on 21 January 1927. (5)
In December 1927 (6) and October 1974 (7) Holroyd exchanged parts with Blacktown Shire.
From 1 January 1991, city status was proclaimed and the Municipality became the City of Holroyd. (8)
On 12 May 2016 the City of Holroyd was amalgamated with the Cities of Auburn and Parramatta (Woodville Ward) to create the Cumberland Council, a local government area located in the western suburbs of Sydney. (9)
