Full description
Wandsworth Provisional School [IV] in the County of Hardinge was established in February 1949. (1) Provisional Schools were opened in areas of smaller populations where insufficient children attended to justify the opening of a full public school. By 1949 nine students were required to maintain a provisional school. Usually the Department of Public Instruction supplied the teacher, books and other teaching materials and the parents provided the premises for the School. (2)
In November 1957 all remaining provisional schools in the State were converted to Public Schools with a minimum attendance of nine. The Department met the total costs of the School. (3)
The School closed in December 1970. (4)
Schools were established at Wandsworth from 1872 to 1875, 1884 to 1911 and 1923 to 1934. (5)
