Full description
Wandsworth Provisional School (I) in the County of Hardinge was established in September 1872. (1) Provisional Schools were opened in areas of smaller populations where insufficient children attended to justify the opening of a full public school. By 1872 fifteen students were required to maintain a provisional school. Usually the Department of Public Instruction supplied the teacher, books and other teaching materials and the parents provided the premises for the School. (2)
The School closed in December 1875. (3)
Subsequently schools were operated at Wandsworth from 1884 to 1911, 1923 to 1934 and 1949 to 1970. (4)
