The Dental Board of New South Wales was constituted by the Dentists Act (Act No.45, 1900) which was assented to on 5 November 1900. Originally the Board consisted of two duly qualified medical practitioners and four dentists qualified for registration under the provisions of the principal Act, and two persons not being either medical practitioners or dentists, appointed by the Governor-in-Council for a period of three years. (1) The first Board was appointed on 17 December 1900, comprising: James Graham, Esquire, M.D., M.S., M.P. (President); Edward Johnstone Jenkins, Esquire, M.D., M.B.C.S.E.; Alfred Burne, Esquire, D.D.S.; Edward Reading, Esquire; and George Vern Barnett, Esquire; Henry Peach, Esquire, D.D.S.; The Honorable "William; Joseph Trickett, M.L.C., and George Norton Russell, Esquire, J.P. (2)

The Dentists Act, 1900 also provided for the appointment, by the board, of a registrar whose duty it was to maintain the register of dentists. (3) The Act laid down the qualifications necessary for registration as a dentist (4) and defined the circumstances under which the Board could refuse registration or remove persons from the register. (5)

The Dental Board was dissolved on 23 December 1909, all regulations repealed and all money in its possession was passed into consolidated revenue by the Dentists Act, 1909. (6)
