Full description
Regulation of potato marketing had been the responsibility of the Australian Potato Committee from 1942 until 1948.
A poll of growers was held on 21 December 1946, (1) on the question of whether a Marketing Board for Potatoes should be established under the Marketing of Primary Products Act, 1927-40. The growers voted in favour of this proposal, and a subsequent poll of New South Wales potato producers was held on 12 March 1947 to vote for five representatives to be members of the Board. (2) The Board was appointed on 2 April 1947. (3)
The Potato Marketing Board acted as a compulsory co-operative marketing organisation for potatoes produced and sold within New South Wales.
The Potato Marketing Board was dissolved by decision of a poll of potato growers and its abolition was proclaimed on 20 July 1956. (4)
