Full description

The Advisory Board of Health was established by the Health Commission Act, 1972. (1) The New Board first met on 13 June 1973, having taken over the duties of the Board of Health which was abolished April 1973. The purpose of the Board was * To advise the Health Commission on matters covered by the statutes previously administered by the Board of Health, particularly in relation to the public interest * To consider regularly the statistics and other information in relation to infectious diseases and to submit comment thereon * To receive a report and make any comment on the prosecutions under the various statutes * To receive and consider proposed amendments to Acts and regulations proposed by the Commission and to recommend where considered appropriate, a view of relevant Acts and regulations to submit any suggestions thereon to the Commission. * To advise the Commission on matters of mutual concern to the Health Commission and Local Government Authorities * To advise on such matters relating to the public health as may be referred by the Commission. (2) The majority of members of the Advisory Board had previously served on the Board of Health, and the composition of the new Board (including several doctors and local government representatives) was very similar to that of the Board of Health at the time of abolition. On 19 September, 1974 the Chairman of the Heath Commission of NSW advised the President that the Advisory Board would be wound up and that its functions would be dealt with by ad hoc committees, established as required, within the Health Commission. (3) The final meeting of the Board was held on 9 October, 1974.
