Full description
Following an inquiry conducted in 2003-2004, Tamworth City Council was amalgamated with parts of Barraba, Manilla, Nundle and Parry Shires to form the new Peel Regional Council, which was proclaimed on 17 March 2004. (1) Following a request from Council, on 31 March 2004 the name Peel Regional Council was changed to Tamworth Regional Council. (2)
James Treloar was appointed as administrator, with Philip Lyon as Acting General Manager until the first Council election. (3) This election of nine Councillors was held on 26 June 2004. (4)
On 25 May 2005 part of the Area of Gwydir Shire was added to the Area of Tamworth Regional. (5)
